Eleven of Europe’s most influential automotive companies signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in June 2025 that signals a united commitment to open source collaboration for the software-defined vehicle (SDV). In the first instance, efforts are centered around the Eclipse S-CORE project.

About the Eclipse SDV Working Group

The Eclipse SDV Working Group is the industry’s open collaboration hub for building the future of automotive software. With a community of 50+ leading organisations, including global automakers, tier 1 suppliers, cloud providers, and technology leaders, the Eclipse SDV Working Group provides the governance, community, and technical alignment needed to create the next generation of automotive software platforms.

Using a “code first” approach, Eclipse SDV is vendor-neutral and community driven, ensuring that innovation benefits the entire ecosystem. Through open collaboration, members co-create and share solutions that form the foundation of the software-defined vehicle era.

Our committees

Steering Committee

The Steering Committee defines the overall strategy, governance, and long-term roadmap for Eclipse SDV. It provides strategic oversight across multiple release cycles, sets priorities for the initiative, and approves the key messaging and positioning for major announcements or milestones. The committee receives regular updates from the Technical Advisory Committee, working groups, and individual SDV projects to ensure alignment with community needs and industry trends.

Technical Committee

The Technical Advisory Committee makes recommendations regarding the scope and composition of the Eclipse SDV project ecosystem. It advises on which Eclipse Foundation open source projects, technologies, and specifications should fall under the SDV initiative. The committee evaluates technical relevance, interoperability, and alignment with the overall SDV architecture, ensuring that the initiative remains cohesive and technically sound.

Marketing Committee

The Marketing Committee focuses on marketing, branding, and community engagement for the Eclipse SDV ecosystem. It is responsible for developing and executing the SDV marketing strategy, including messaging frameworks, release-related communication, and promotional activities. This committee ensures consistent positioning of Eclipse SDV across all channels and works closely with other committees to align messaging with the technical direction and strategic vision of the initiative.
