Building the Software-Defined Vehicle: The Role of Open Source and Global Collaboration

May 21, 2026

at 16:30 to 17:30 CET

Event Overview

Online session for automotive and mobility professionals focused on SDV’s and their role in the industry.

Software-defined vehicles are transforming the automotive industry, and open source plays a critical role in enabling this shift.

As vehicles become increasingly software-defined, collaboration across companies, industries, and global communities is essential. Open source software has emerged as a key enabler for building scalable, interoperable automotive software platforms.

In this webinar, the Eclipse Software Defined Vehicle (SDV) initiative introduces the role of open source in the automotive software stack and explains how collaborative ecosystems help address the complexity of modern vehicle platforms. Attendees will gain an overview of the Eclipse SDV ecosystem, its founding members, and key open source projects shaping the future of automotive software, including initiatives such as Eclipse S-CORE and OpenSOVD. The session will also highlight how open source communities bring together developers and organizations from around the world, demonstrating the growing diversity of contributors driving innovation in mobility technologies.

Finally, participants will learn how individuals and organizations can engage with the SDV ecosystem and contribute to developing next-generation automotive platforms.

By the end of the session, you’ll learn:

  • How software-defined vehicles are reshaping the automotive software architecture
  • The role of open source collaboration in building automotive software platforms
  • An overview of the Eclipse SDV ecosystem and its flagship projects
  • How global developer communities contribute diverse perspectives to automotive innovation
  • Ways individuals and organizations can participate in the Eclipse SDV ecosystem
